Jay built his technical skills from the ground up: His first job was actually as a computer repairman, where he fixed PCs at a small shop. Eventually, his boss asked him if he wanted to learn Linux, and he said yes. What he didn’t know then is that learning Linux would propel him into a career in telecommunications and hosting that’s lasted more than 17 years.
In his next job, Jay worked as a systems administrator and engineer before being promoted to solutions architect. Eventually, he led the internal infrastructure team as head of operations. After almost a decade of working with traditional infrastructure, Jay felt compelled to change directions, so he started at a company where he was able to work with developers and the Cloud more. In this new job, he discovered his favorite thing to do at work: working with clients directly to prevent and solve their problems.
And that’s how he ended up at amazee.io as a Technical Account Manager, so he can continue working closely with clients as a problem-solver. And even in unfamiliar environments, Jay has pretty strong troubleshooting abilities - so he’s excited to jump right in. Jay feels like he’s had the best type of workday when he’s worked through a challenging problem to help a customer.
When Jay isn’t solving problems or working with tech, he likes to play retro video games, tinker with technology for fun, and he’s got a special interest in virtual reality. An old hobby of his that he’s hoping to rekindle soon is motorcycling, which he finds very relaxing.
A fun fact about Jay: His cat is named after the computer from Red Dwarf - Holly.
Welcome to amazee.io, Jay!
