Welcome, Karl Hepworth

We're thrilled to introduce our new Platform Engineer, Karl Hepworth.

Based in Canberra, Australia, Karl’s open source journey began as a government content editor, where he was first introduced to Drupal. This sparked an interest in development that soon led to him becoming a Drupal 7 developer, creating highly customized solutions. As he gained more experience, Karl’s focus shifted towards optimizing the tools and environments that developers rely on. He began concentrating on local development environments and remote workflows, driven by a newfound passion for Ansible.

With the adoption of Kubernetes in the government Drupal hosting space in Australia, Karl shifted his focus to platform management. His journey eventually led him to rewrite amazee.io’s Pygmy project, a transformative effort that reshaped the official tool and became one of his proudest achievements. Since then, he has been dedicated to deepening his expertise in container technology, Containers, Kubernetes, and Cloud Native software—all of which now bring him to amazee.io, where he is excited to push the boundaries of platform innovation.

Karl is most proud of the work that opens new doors for developers to unleash their creativity. Whether he’s launching a project locally to understand its inner workings or developing features that empower platform customers, he’s driven by a passion for making platform management accessible and educational. He finds fulfillment in a productive day of coding, where each line strengthens his understanding and challenges his approach to software architecture.

Looking ahead, Karl is excited about the diversity, flexibility, and structure that amazee.io offers and is eager to refine his software engineering skills while growing as a person. Outside of work, he cherishes quality time with his wife and daughter, enjoys cooking, photography, and video games, and occasionally dives into a good fictional book.
